In a world that all too frequently fails to affirm and support all sexual and gender identities, children, teens and adults in the LQBTQ+ community are at elevated risk of mental distress. Coping with discrimination, coming out to one’s family, or learning to live authentically within the framework of a discriminatory society are only a few of the struggles faced by the LQBTQ+ community. Without proper support, the stress associated with negative interpersonal and social responses to one’s gender and sexual identity can lead to diminished mental health, including increased rates of anxiety, depression - even suicidal ideation and action.
Counseling provides what every person deserves and LQBTQ+ community members too often lack: an environment that is not merely “accepting,” but instead wholly affirming. An environment where you can explore your sexual and gender identity, learning not only how to address areas of stress, anxiety, and discomfort but also how to unearth the relief, joy, and power of living your authentic self. Together, we can identify areas that currently cause pain and address them in ways that lead to empowered wholeness and a life filled with happiness, confidence, and peace.
My work within the LGBTQ+ community has included helping individuals lovingly embrace their gender and sexual identities, supporting lesbian couples walking difficult paths with fertility, and working with families to better understand and support their LGBTQ+ family members. Whatever your experiences with your gender and sexuality are, my goal is to provide a counseling experience that helps you feel affirmed, supported, and whole. For families that include members of the LGBTQ+ community, my goal is to support and empower informed and loving relationships, helping your family become closer and healthier than ever.
